Since this is almost always done by email, you want to make sure it is immediately clear that your message is not junk mail. This requires that you tell them right off the bat that you have added a link to their page on your site. A hook like this almost always insures the reader will read on.

3. Be sure to be flattering and let them know how much you appreciate their website. Make sure you emphasise that you have actually visited their site, and that their site is not just a random pick. Give them the address of your links page, and ask them to check out the link for themselves. It’s a good idea to mention that they will not only benefit from the increased traffic your website will direct their way, but you will also increase their link popularity.

Six Essential Positive Steps when Dealing with negative reviews

You have two choices here:

  • you can attempt to rectify the situation and save face for others who may see the review (and earn some new clients in the process), or
  • you can flip a bitch and make yourself look like a complete idiot.

Regardless of whether the ghost client or genuine client was right or wrong, it is your job to show others that you care and you are willing to do whatever is necessary (within reason) to make this client happy.

Here are six examples to demonstrate your genuine concern and suggestions what to write:

1.) Apologise. The very first thing you need to write is,

“My name is ___ and I am the owner of this establishment. I am so sorry that you had such a negative experience and I would love the opportunity to make it up to you.”

2.) Show gratitude. Let the client know that you appreciate that they took the time to write the review.

“I am truly apologetic that we did not meet your expectations during this visit, but I do greatly appreciate that you took the time to write a review. As a small business owner, reviews like yours are so helpful to me, so thank you for communicating to us where we are falling short so that we can rectify the problems immediately!”

3.) Make an offer. Offer the client something for their inconvenience. They may not take up the offer, but at least make an effort. If they had a terrible massage, offer to give them 50% off with your most experienced therapist. If they didn’t like the color job, offer to have it corrected for free by your most senior colorist.

“If you would be willing to give us another chance, I would love for you to enjoy _____ for _____!”

4.) Let it be known that you addressed the problem with your staff. Make it clear that you have taken action to correct the problem.

“After reading about your experience, I held a meeting with my staff members and addressed the problems you have communicated in your review.”

If the problem was caused by a communication issue (a rude employee, for example), say that the staff are now going to be more conscientious in their communications with each other and with guests. If it had to do with a bad service, inform the reviewer that you are now going to be requiring all staff members to undergo weekly continuing education and monthly technical evaluations. (Seriously, you should be doing that anyways.)

5.) Promise it will NEVER happen again…and mean it. This is where you take the feedback you were given and you learn from it.

ADAPT YOUR BUSINESS TO ENSURE THAT NOBODY EVER HAS A REASON TO LEAVE A SIMILAR NEGATIVE REVIEW IN THE FUTURE.

“I want you to know I am taking proactive steps to ensure that this issue doesn’t arise in the future. I am doing this by ___. I promise you that nobody will ever experience this problem again.”

6.) Apologise, thank the reviewer, and invite them back again. Yeah, really.

“Again, I want you to know how sorry I am. I do appreciate your feedback and hope that you’ll give us another chance to earn back your business.”

DO NOT GET CONFRONTATIONAL, ATTEMPT TO EXPLAIN “YOUR SIDE” OF THE STORY, OR DISCREDIT THE REVIEWER.

I have seen responses to reviews that were downright nasty and unprofessional.

“This woman is obnoxious and rude. We’re all glad that you’re leaving the salon. We pity the next hairdresser whose chair you sit in.”

“This client fails to mention in her review that she ALWAYS tries to haggle the staff for lower prices when she comes, even though the price is clearly communicated to her prior to the start of her service.”

“This review is completely bogus. This never happened. Whoever this is is lying.”

NEGATIVE REVIEWS GIVE YOU THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHOWCASE YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS.
DON’T BURN IT BY BEING PETTY.

A classy, professional, understanding response may impress potential clients, negating the poor review entirely.

Common Negative Review Topics AND HOW TO DEAL WITH THEM

1.) Pricing is too high: A good way to respond to this is to showcase the benefits that set your business apart. (This is assuming that your prices are higher because your services/products justify them.) If you offer monthly specials, mention this as well. Some people just can’t afford to (or don’t want to) pay higher prices. You shouldn’t renegotiate your pricing unless it is affecting your business on a massive scale.

IF A CLIENT OR TWO COMPLAINS ABOUT THE PRICE, THAT’S FINE. WHAT YOU NEED TO LOOK OUT FOR ARE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SERVICE THEY’RE RECEIVING.

2.) Rude staff: Tell the reviewer that you have reprimanded the employee responsible. In addition, make it clear that you’ve held a meeting to ensure that all staff members know how seriously you take customer service. Ensure that the client will not have the same experience again should they return.

3.) Bad services: Make a commitment to help your staff continuously improve. Continuing education doesn’t have to cost tons of money. Have each of them teach a one or two hour class on something every week. Set up a rotation for it. They can pick the topic. Evaluate potential new hires before signing them on to work for you. Do regular evaluations of your existing staff members also.

4.) Business is unclean: There is NO excuse for you to have a filthy, disorganised salon or dirty equipment. If you and your staff are too busy to keep it up, hire someone to do so. Seriously, you have no excuse.

5.) Miscommunication: Clarify the miscommunication in the review. Sometimes, miscommunications are honest mistakes. If an employee said something in error, apologise and explain the reason why the employee may have been confused. Never blame the reviewer.

Whatever you do, keep your cool. You want your response to be classy, upbeat, apologetic, and humble.

YOUR GOAL IS TO HAVE OTHERS THAT READ YOUR RESPONSE THINK, “WHAT A GREAT WAY FOR THEM TO HANDLE THAT SITUATION!”

You do not want potential clients to see you rage out on a client online. Show them how well you treat unhappy customers and how quickly and professionally you respond to their criticisms. Keep it together and not only will you salvage the relationship with the reviewer, but you will gain the respect and admiration of the potential clients who read the review response as well.

BOGUS COMPLAINTS

Competitors have found a dishonourable way to rubbish another competitors name whilst promoting there own business or services.

Be aware that there are many DCC complaint websites that are not policed in anyway and allows anyone to post a destructive message without any real link back to them.

Messages can also be posted against your Youtube videos, facebook, Google, blogs and articles, so it is sometime worth ticking the box that allows you to approve any messages before they are posted against your name or business.

Six tips on how to avoid water retension

What Causes Water Retention and How to Avoid It

Are your feet, ankles, hands, or legs often swollen? This happens because of water retention, a condition known as edema. It is characterized by the accumulation of fluids in the tissues, circulatory system, and cavities.
Water retention, also known as fluid retention refers to an excessive build up of fluid in the circulatory system, body tissues, or cavities in the body. Up to 70% of the human body consists of waterwater exists both inside and outside our body’s cells. Edema is the medical term for swelling.

The main causes of edema are pregnancy, not being physically active, premenstrual syndrome, sedentary lifestyle, and certain medications. But, swelling can also occur during a long flight.

Most cases of edema are not serious. However, sometimes it can indicate heart failure or kidney disease, so it’s important to treat it on time.

Here are the main causes of edema as well as suggested ways of how to reduce the swelling and avoid water retention, as long as there’s no underlying condition.

6 Causes of Edema and suggested solutions

1. Excessive Sodium Intake

If your diet is based on sodium-rich foods and if you don’t drink enough water, your body will use its water reserves. This, in turn, results in water retention. The human cells can expand up to 20 times with the help of water. So, the important thing here is to know which foods contain high amounts of sodium, so you can start avoiding them.

Besides salt, sodium can also be found in canned vegetables, some condiments, processed meat, and other processed foods. On the other hand, Celtic and Himalayan sea salt can reverse the water retention caused by table salt.

2. Magnesium Deficiency

Lack of magnesium can lead to edema. This mineral is vital for most functions in the body, so insufficient amounts of it can hinder the proper function of the body. This will eventually lead to water retention.

One research showed that taking 200 milligrams as a daily dose of magnesium can reduce water retention in women with premenstrual symptoms. Increasing the intake of magnesium-rich foods or taking it as a supplement can relieve this condition.

Here are the foods which contain the highest amount of magnesium: dried fruits, spinach, dark green veggies, dark chocolate, nuts, avocados, peas, and whole grains.

3. Lack of Vitamin B6

Deficiency in vitamin B6 can lead to edema since it’s involved in many aspects of water balance in the body.

A study published in the Journal of Caring Sciences involved women who experienced water retention caused by premenstrual syndrome. They took vitamin B6 on a daily basis, and their condition was soon improved. This vitamin is water-soluble, so it requires many cofactors to function properly. Therefore, it’s best to obtain it from whole foods.

Foods high in this vitamin are potatoes with skin, chicken, lean beef, turkey, tuna, dried fruit, bananas, sunflower seeds, and pistachio nuts.

4. Lack of Potassium

This mineral is vital for the proper function of cells, tissues, and organs in the body. It plays a significant role in the maintenance of normal water balance in the body.

Potassium deficiency can result from not consuming enough potassium-rich foods but high amounts of salt. This will eventually lead to edema. Lack of this mineral can cause weight gain, muscle spasms, and cramps. Potassium can reduce water retention due to its ability to reduce the sodium levels.

You can find this mineral in most fruits, especially in watermelon, honey melon, and rockmelon.

5. Dehydration

Dehydration occurs when you don’t drink enough water. This condition forces the body to retain water in order to survive, resulting in swellings in your feet, ankles, hands, or legs. Luckily, it’s not hard to improve your condition. Just drink enough water and potassium-rich juices, and avoid soda drinks and coffee.

6. Excessive Consumption of Processed Foods

As we mentioned, processed foods are full of sugar and sodium – one of the leading causes of water retention. But, they also contain artificial food additives whose toxic nature puts a load on the kidneys and the liver.

Foods which contain high amounts of sugar including artificial sweeteners can cause spikes in the levels of insulin and blood sugar.

Therefore, we recommend avoiding processed foods as much as you can.

As your students move through adolescence, their brains are going through a dynamic change from chaos to clarity. These developmental changes have profound implications for how you’ll be able to guide students during these transformative years.

Brain Remodeling: Chaos to Clarity

The brain first goes through a rapid maturation phase in the months before and after birth, and a second maturation phase throughout later childhood and adolescence. During this second phase of increased brain growth, the prefrontal cortex is the site of the brain’s most active reorganization and growth. Before building your understanding of what is taking place in the prefrontal cortex during its adolescent growth spurt, let’s explore what is housed in this late-developing part of the brain.

The prefrontal cortex is where the highest cognitive and emotional control networks are being constructed, especially during the school years. These networks are what neurologists call executive functions.

The networks of the executive functions direct the complex mental processes that you see emerging as students grow. Executive functions can be thought of as the skills that would make a corporate executive successful, abilities that allow them to:

  • Organize
  • Prioritize
  • Communicate effectively
  • Accurately interpret validity and value of information
  • Make long-range plans to achieve goals
  • Assess risk
  • Solve problems creatively
  • Innovate

These networks do not reach full effectiveness until early adulthood. When well nurtured by use, executive functions ultimately guide the brain’s abilities to:

  • Manage emotional stability
  • Control impulses
  • Plan
  • Respond productively to corrective feedback
  • Learn from mistakes
  • Remain resilient to setbacks
  • Reflect thoughtfully before making decisions and choices.

Early adolescence (ages 10-12) is a good time to build students’ skills of organizing and prioritizing information and time management. The opportunities you provide to guide them in using these executive functions also provide the activation to strengthen these networks when they are at peak neuroplastic responsiveness. As a result of this strengthening, your students will build more skills en route to becoming self-directed learners.

Helping Students Organize Themselves

Successful organization is needed for preparing and completing most activities related to school. The development of this executive function becomes even more critical as the responsibilities and requirements of school and extracurricular activities increase each year. Using strategies that increase student awareness of these skills and providing guided opportunities to use them will help adolescents build the brainpower that they need.

Start by promoting student awareness of their existing organizing skills. Ask questions such as:

  • How do you sort your music on playlists?
  • How do you organize your files on your computer?

Also, ask questions about familiar things that are already organized systematically, such as:

  • How is the content of this book organized into chapters?
  • What organization do you see in the periodic table of elements or in dividing plants and animals into classifications such as kingdoms, genus, and species?

Other Strategies

1. Teacher Modeling and Discussion

Model your systems of organization (filing, recording progress, how you set up the classroom, etc.). Draw students’ attention to the organizational strategies that you use during instruction.

2. Clear Instructions

Initially, when providing organizational strategies, emphasize them both verbally and in writing. Give students clear instructions for procedures, projects, or class transitions as you model organizational structure.

3. Student Modeling

Assign selected students to model the procedures that you’ve described, such as the right way and the wrong way to organize their class groups during collaborative work time.

4. Checking for Understanding

Stop between segments of complex or multi-step instructions, allowing students to organize their thoughts and ask questions. Ask students to repeat back their understanding of the instructions so that they can respond to your feedback and reorganize appropriately.

5. Gradual Release of Responsibility

Throughout the year, plan a gradual decrease in the scaffolding that you provide for student organization of time and goals. For example, back away from giving them your timeline schedule for parts of a book report or project, let them plan and write their own timelines, and revise these as you help them monitor their progress.

6. Feedback

Observe student progress and setbacks and provide feedback with opportunities for them to revise their organizational systems.

THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF RAW CACAO

Magnesium

Raw cacao is one of the best food sources of magnesium – a mineral that many of us don’t get enough of in our diets. Magnesium is essential for energy production, for a healthy brain and nervous system, for our muscles and for strong bones and teeth. Magnesium may also support a healthy blood pressure.

Iron

Raw cacao is also very low in sugar, and of course does not contain any milk, so is suitable for those who are milk-sensitive or following a low-sugar diet.

THE PROBLEM WITH CHOCOLATE

The cacao – or cocoa – part of a chocolate bar is not ‘unhealthy’ as such. The main factor that makes it less healthy is the sugar that’s added to it to create a standard chocolate bar. Also, when cacao is roasted to make a standard chocolate bar, you do lose some of the antioxidant flavonoids, beneficial enzymes and other nutrients – which of course doesn’t happen with raw cacao or raw chocolate.

So what about painfully dark chocolate, you know the 99% cocoa solids stuff? Cocoa solids are what’s left after the cacao butter (the oil in the cacao bean) has been separated from the ground up raw cacao beans. Cacao solids are used to make cacao powder. ‘Raw cacao’ can refer to the whole beans, opl

the solids, or the powder, as long as it is not heated during processing. It is this heating process that robs some of the nutrients.

THE INVISIBLE FORCES THAT HOLD YOUR COMPANY TOGETHER

I have recently read several articles about Storytelling.  I have however come to realise that the objective of a well-crafted , complete story is to create synergy.

This combined effort or synergistic effect produces energy in many places within the company. These fields of energy become an invisible force that holds your company together (see Figure 1-). While the concepts of field theory are still relatively new as they are applied to an organisation, we must believe that people working together toward common goals display a different level of excitement than a loose collection of individuals with no defined purpose. That excitement is created by lots of leaders telling lots of good stories about the organisation. It is about leaders creating myths, legends, and fables of the company that tend to attract people. It’s the stories told around the coffee station. Leaders can create energy, synergy, and bonding to corporate stories by appealing to people’s sense of belonging, challenge, purpose, and contribution.

Fields of Belonging

People want to belong to something. That’s why they join clubs, work in groups, and live in communities. They want to be part of a winning work organisation. I’ve never met a single person who said, “I think I’ll go to work for a losing company.” Use this basic human need to create a field of energy around membership in your organisation. If you work by yourself, then connect with groups with like minded people.

Fields of Challenge

People want to experience challenge in work and life. That’s why they search for the cure for cancer or participate in extreme sports. Give people a challenge. Ask them to do the impossible. Stretch their knowledge and ability. Tap into their unused energy. Channel it toward your goals. Again if you work for yourself, then reach for the stars, stretch yourself so you can grow. You will be surprised at the results.

Fields of Purpose

People want to know that their work has meaning. That’s why they need to know if what they do has relevance. Even if you work alone and for yourself, knowing that you are appreciated goes a long way to motivating you. Show everyone how he or she fits into your business plan and why it is important for every employee to be successful. It is amasing how easily your goals will then be accomplished.

Fields of Contribution

People want to know if their work has contributed to the activity. Have they made a difference? Show employees where their individual efforts help the team achieve its goal and you have a satisfied workforce. If I can make a difference I will work at a different level than if I believe that my work is just part of a giant struggle that leads to no conclusive end game.

Belonging, Challenges, Purpose and Contribution are some of the key drivers to becoming self employed or doing something that you love.  If you find that these ingredients are missing from your daily cycle, this could be some of the reasons why your self esteem could be low. So let us take a look at nine tools.

THE  NINE  TOOLS  FOR  GENERATING  EFFECTIVE BUSINESS ENERGY FIELDS

 

According to many articles, effective leaders can use the elements of a business plan to create the necessary energy to make things happen. They know energy fields and business plans cannot operate independently. A business plan that has an inconsistent story will be flat, lackluster, and boring not to mention under believable. There will be no passion or sense of purpose. Employees will not work with pride or display enthusiasm above and beyond. There will be no sense of urgency to complete the plan. Lethargy toward the written plan will be evidenced.

On the other hand, well-crafted business plans generate all the human power you need for accomplishing ambitious goals. Turning people on turns on the business plan. I know business plans can be a pain, but revising them can help refocus you and recharge your energy. Each of the nine element has a unique value to your business plan and the underlying company story. Margaret J. Wheatley describes our present understanding of energy fields.
