Why Having The Right People Around You Matters To An Entrepreneur

Starting and running a business can be very lonely and exposes you to bouts of isolation. When this happens the need to be loved, needed, and pampered is very strong and there is nothing wrong with that.

Ones self esteem can suffer and this can be compounded by historical experiences (childhood, family etc) and frustration and exhaustion when trying to lift your business of the ground and working a 12 hours day.

Being an ideas person, being creative and wanting recognition for that is achieved when the evidence is people buying your services or products.

The people you have surrounding you is very important, they have to be of a similar stock because they get it, they move into activities that support your dream and help you benefit from your hard work.

Many women are brilliant because most of them run several things at once if they are mums, wife, daughters, designer, marketeer, sales person, social media expert, bookeeper, packer and distributors and the list goes on.

The main point is to have total confidence in who you are, listen to tapes and watch video that continually empowers you. Mix with the pack that stimulates and motivates you and you them. When you live like this all who is to be in your life will gravitate towards you and give you joy and support.

You will easily be able to then identify anyone around you that does not naturally fit into your gang because they don’t naturally make you feel better, they add weight to your life and focus on distracting you.

But we are born with free will and you can use it to experience your life in what ever way YOU want.

The ultimate responsibility is your.

THE INVISIBLE FORCES THAT HOLD YOUR COMPANY TOGETHER

I have recently read several articles about Storytelling.  I have however come to realise that the objective of a well-crafted , complete story is to create synergy.

article by Diane Shawe M.Ed

This combined effort or synergistic effect produces energy in many places within the company. These fields of energy become an invisible force that holds your company together (see Figure 1-). While the concepts of field theory are still relatively new as they are applied to an organisation, we must believe that people working together toward common goals display a different level of excitement than a loose collection of individuals with no defined purpose. That excitement is created by lots of leaders telling lots of good stories about the organisation. It is about leaders creating myths, legends, and fables of the company that tend to attract people. It’s the stories told around the coffee station. Leaders can create energy, synergy, and bonding to corporate stories by appealing to people’s sense of belonging, challenge, purpose, and contribution.

four feild of energy that generat passion by Diane Shawe

Figure 1. Four fields of energy that generate passion.

Fields of Belonging

People want to belong to something. That’s why they join clubs, work in groups, and live in communities. They want to be part of a winning work organisation. I’ve never met a single person who said, “I think I’ll go to work for a losing company.” Use this basic human need to create a field of energy around membership in your organisation. If you work by yourself, then connect with groups with like minded people.

Fields of Challenge

People want to experience challenge in work and life. That’s why they search for the cure for cancer or participate in extreme sports. Give people a challenge. Ask them to do the impossible. Stretch their knowledge and ability. Tap into their unused energy. Channel it toward your goals. Again if you work for yourself, then reach for the stars, stretch yourself so you can grow. You will be surprised at the results.

Fields of Purpose

People want to know that their work has meaning. That’s why they need to know if what they do has relevance. Even if you work alone and for yourself, knowing that you are appreciated goes a long way to motivating you. Show everyone how he or she fits into your business plan and why it is important for every employee to be successful. It is amasing how easily your goals will then be accomplished.

Fields of Contribution

People want to know if their work has contributed to the activity. Have they made a difference? Show employees where their individual efforts help the team achieve its goal and you have a satisfied workforce. If I can make a difference I will work at a different level than if I believe that my work is just part of a giant struggle that leads to no conclusive end game.

Belonging, Challenges, Purpose and Contribution are some of the key drivers to becoming self employed or doing something that you love.  If you find that these ingredients are missing from your daily cycle, this could be some of the reasons why your self esteem could be low. So let us take a look at nine tools.

THE  NINE  TOOLS  FOR  GENERATING  EFFECTIVE BUSINESS ENERGY FIELDS

According to many articles, effective leaders can use the elements of a business plan to create the necessary energy to make things happen. They know energy fields and business plans cannot operate independently. A business plan that has an inconsistent story will be flat, lackluster, and boring not to mention under believable. There will be no passion or sense of purpose. Employees will not work with pride or display enthusiasm above and beyond. There will be no sense of urgency to complete the plan. Lethargy toward the written plan will be evidenced.

On the other hand, well-crafted business plans generate all the human power you need for accomplishing ambitious goals. Turning people on turns on the business plan. I know business plans can be a pain, but revising them can help refocus you and recharge your energy. Each of the nine element has a unique value to your business plan and the underlying company story. Margaret J. Wheatley describes our present understanding of energy fields.

“We have moved deeper into a field view of reality by our present focus on culture, vision, and values as the means for man- aging organisations. We know that this works, even when we don’t know how to do it well.”

9 elements to create energy by Diane Shawe

Figure 2

Here are nine critical elements ( Figure 2.) I believe are core to any organisation’s ability to create energy fields:

  • Vision Statement (creates passion)
  • Mission Statement (creates purpose)
  • Strategic Goals and Objectives (set direction)
  • Strategies and Tactics (generate action)
  • Philosophy Statement (creates ethical boundaries)
  • Focus (creates efficiency)
  • Value Statements (create a scale of importance)
  • Principles (benchmark behavior)
  • Strategic Intent (signals commitment)

Without beating the rug anymore, when was the last time any of your nine elements updated?

Don’t let others failures make a monkey out of you

Fear of failure and not standing out from the crowd will not get you far up the ladder of success

article by Diane Shawe M.Ed. Ed
Four monkeys were placed in a room that had a tall pole in the center. Suspended from the top of that pole was a bunch of bananas. One of the hungry monkeys started climbing the pole to get something to eat, but just as he reached out to grab a banana, he was doused with a torrent of cold water.

Squealing, he scampered down the pole and abandoned his attempt to feed himself.

Each monkey made a similar attempt, and each one was drenched with cold water. After making several attempts, they finally gave up.

Then researchers removed one of the monkeys from the room and replaced him with a new monkey. As the newcomer began to climb the pole, the other three grabbed him and pulled him down to the ground.

After trying to climb the pole several times and being dragged down by the others, he finally gave up and never attempted to climb the pole again.

The researchers replaced the original monkeys, one by one, and each time a new monkey was brought in, he would be dragged down by the others before he could reach the bananas.

In time, the room was filled with monkeys who had never received a cold shower. None of them knew why.

IT’S TIME TO STOP PAYING FOR TALK AND START PAYING FOR PROPERTY

Why mentoring for women running a business has become critical

mentoring by diane shaweWhy Mentoring is important

Article by Diane Shawe

It was revealed last year in an article that young women are more likely to fall into personal insolvency than young men of the same age. The figures, which were quite alarming if you’re a woman, showed that nearly eight out of 10,000 young women became insolvent last year, compared to just four men in 10,000

“Mentor: Someone whose hindsight can become your foresight”

Mentoring is a powerful personal and development tool. It is a partnership between two people (mentor and mentee) normally working in a similar field or sharing similar experiences – or conversely, perhaps you are looking to enter a new field and would like support from someone who has been there before. It is a helpful, supportive relationship based on mutual trust and respect.

What is a mentor

Mentoring is most often defined as a professional relationship in which an experienced person (the mentor) assists another (the mentoree) in developing specific skills and knowledge that will enhance the less-experienced person’s professional and personal growth.

What is a Coach

Coaching is training or development in which a person called a “coach” supports a learner in achieving a specific personal or professional goal. The learner is sometimes called a “coachee”. Occasionally, “coaching” may mean an informal relationship between two people, of whom one has more experience and expertise than the other and offers advice and guidance as the latter learns; but coaching differs from mentoring in focusing on competence specifics, as opposed to general overall development.

Some coaches use a style in which they ask questions and offer opportunities to challenge the learner to find his or her own answers. This helps the learner find answers and new ways of achieving their goals based on their own values, preferences and perspectives.

So your mentor is your guide who can help you to find the right direction, be a sounding board and support you in developing solutions for you and your business or lifestyle.

Getting Financed – A fair share for Women startup

Start-Up Loans are funded by the Government both for people starting up and new businesses trading for less than two years. They are easy to apply for and typically people borrow between £2,000 and £10,000, although there is no limit. Enterprising Women’s parent company YTKO has now been approved as a national provider of Start-up Loans, which means that Enterprising Women can now bring them to you!

WHY PRE START UP SUPPORT IS ALSO IMPORTANT

The Enterprising Women  also offer a wealth of pre-start support through their sister organisation Outset, as well as post-finance mentors to help keep you on track. So if you’re a new business (trading for less than two years months) looking to fund your growth or just starting out, – or know someone who is – click here to find out more.

The Start Up Loans Company is a UK-wide, government backed scheme, which offers a repayable loan to individuals over the age of 18 who have a viable business idea but no access to finance. The scheme funds businesses in every sector. As well as financial backing, all loan recipients are given access to a mentor, free training events and exclusive business offers.

If you are yet to start, or in your first two years of trading, then you will probably be eligible to apply. People typically borrow between £2,000 and £10,000 (the maximum loan is £25,000) and all loans come at a competitive, fixed rate of interest at 6.2% APR.

Five incredible speaking tips to help you speak with confidence

2 day Presentation Public Speaking Survival Course

2 day Presentation Public Speaking Survival Course

Incredible Speaking Tips by Diane Shawe M.Ed

A great presenter has two unique qualities: appropriate skills and personal confidence. This confidence comes from knowing what you want to say and being comfortable with your communication skills. Mastering these skills will make you a better speaker and presenter

Use these tips to create your own winning talk:

1. Know your audience. Think about what people are interested in, not in what you want them to be interested in. For instance, if your going to  speak to an audience about  money, it would be safe to assume that a vast majority of the  audience would want to know how to increase their wealth. So if you have created wealth people would naturally be interested in how you achieved this and not want to listen to how someone else achieved it.

2. Know your message. If you don’t have a key principle or point to convey, your talk will drift aimlessly and your speech will come across as empty.

3. Have stories to illustrate your points. Stories entertain as well as educate. Learn how to stuff your presentation with delightful and humorous stories that happened to illustrate your key points. Delivering your
principles or message without stories will make you sound lifeless and boring. Breathe life into your speech with relevant stories.

4. Use visual props. Regardless of the mindless machine raging against power points, they can help to prompt you, appeal to visual learners and support additional materials to add value of keeping people interested.

5. End with a bang. Psychologists say people will remember the opening and the ending of your talk more than any other part of your speech. If you want people to remember you, end your presentation on a memorable note. I like to tell stories that inspire people.

A Chinese student-entrepreneur-led proposal Evercise won a £110,000 award at the UK CTC Entrepreneurship Award on 11th May in London.

Chinese investment in the UK is heating up and investing in UK is no longer the exclusive territory for the seasonal businessmen or large corporates.
